Memory Card Controller Chip |
|
The controller chip, with the memory chip, is the most important element of a memory card. With the exception of the SmartMedia Card and xD-Picture Card, all memory cards have a build-in controller chip. It handles all the reads and writes between the flash memory chip and the host device. The controller chip’s job is also to test, identify and automatically lock out damaged memory cells and then move the data to other memory cells that are set aside for memory management.
