SanDisk doubles the storage capacity of its Extreme III memory cards

SanDisk announced the addition of new memory card storage capacities to its Extreme III line of flash cards for professional digital cameras. The new cards include the 8 GB CompactFlash, 2 GB SD Memory Card and 4 GB Memory Stick PRO Duo.

SanDisk Extreme III CompactFlash and SD cards have minimum write and read speeds of 20 MB/sec. Memory Stick PRO Duo have minimum write and read speeds of 18 MB/sec. They are among the world’s fastest memory cards, being used by professional photographers who require high-speed flash memory cards for their high-performance digital cameras.

SanDisk Extreme III cards have a 10-year warranty in Europe, the Middle East and Africa but will have a lifetime-limited warranty in the rest of the world. Photographers who purchase the memory cards will also have access to a toll-free number for technical support. The cards will also include the RescuePRO software that allows photographers to recover accidentally deleted and lost digital images or data.

The Extreme III memory cards have the following suggested retail prices:

CompactFlash 8GB                   $559.99          Available: March –06
SD Memory Card 2GB               $199.99          Available: March –06
Memory Stick Duo 4GB             $419.99          Available: March –06

SanDisk Extreme III memory cards use the SanDisk-developed ESP (Enhanced Super-Parallel Processing) technology that combines advanced NAND flash memory chips and controller designs, 32-bit RISC processing and leading edge algorithms for an architecture that streamlines every aspect of read and write data transfer operations. In addition, SanDisk works closely with major camera manufacturers to ensure speed and compatibility. The ESP architecture effectively removes the card as the bottleneck in data storage applications.
