Samsung launches NAND flash drive for laptop computers
Samsung announced that it has begun offering a 32 GB NAND flash drive marking the first time that NAND flash has moved into mobile computing applications.
The 32 GB flash drive, which serves the same purpose as a hard disk drive, is a data storage medium for laptops and other mobile computers. It uses NAND flash memory technology instead of the rotating discs found in hard disk drives.
The flash drive weighs only half as much as a comparably sized hard drive and reads data three times faster and writes data 1.5 times faster. It also uses just five percent of the electricity needed to power a hard disk drive and is noiseless. Flash drives are also more reliable and durable than hard disk drives.
