Intel and GSMA want to integrate SIM Cards in every laptop computer

At the 3GSM World Congress the GSM Association and Intel announced an initiative to develop guidelines for integrating SIM Cards into laptop computers, enabling automatic connection to both 3GSM networks and Wi-Fi networks, by using the same SIM Card technology used by mobile phones today.

Their goal is to ensure that every notebook will have a SIM Card slot. This move will make the new SIM memory cards with high storage capacity compatible to all laptops being sold in the future. This will also make SIM cards more appealing as an alternative to regular memory cards.
