Most of the game console manufactures are using their own memory card standards. In most of the cases they can only be used in their own game consoles and in some cases they are not even compatible with their own older versions. This is about to change since the PSP, PS3 and Nintento Revolution are having slot for regular memory card formats.

Today it is common to find exactly the same memory card under different names. This is happening since corporations first introduce a new memory card format on the market and then an industry wide association adopts the card as their own format, therefore it has to be called by a new name given by the association.
